The 3 Minute Sketch

The 3 Minute Sketch is a personal exercise/challenge to draw whatever comes to mind in a three minute time limit. It's not always pretty, but that's the nature of it. For me, it's become a good way to get things flowing.
I've recently began starting my sessions with a timed exercise to get the urge to "just draw whatever" out of my system so I can begin my tasks. I chose the limit of 3 minutes for a couple of reasons.
One; in the grand scope of time, what is 3 minutes from 8+hours? For me, it's virtually nothing. 3 minutes and I relieve that desire to draw whatever.
Two; it provides a challenge. 3 minutes to make a drawing that actually looks like something. That's not easy for me but it's been fun and I'm pretty satisfied with the results of the actual drawings. I've already taken one image from the initial sketch to something more.

Lastly, the exercises have helped me to get started on my task. After the 3 minutes are up, my hand and brain are ready to continue drawing, jump starting "the groove" mindset that can the last for hours.
I encourage anybody that finds themselves sluggish to get started to try it out. 3 minutes. When time's up, the picture is finished. It may help you become more productive afterward as it has myself.
